City Beneath the Skin - The Throbbing Vein (Part One)
Welcome to Vire City, a metropolis crawling atop the colossal corpse of the Hollow God — a bio-mechanical titan whose bones still twist beneath metal and neon. Foundations groan with its weight, organs pulse faintly as infrastructure, and dormant neural veins run beneath the streets like half-forgotten catacombs. Some streets smell faintly of rust and decay, others carry whispers of a hunger that refuses to sleep. Occasionally, the city shudders beneath your feet, as if testing you. Deep in the lower levels, tucked among the flexing ribs of the titan, lies the Underlayers. Biotechnology fuses with corroded alloy here, and the air tastes like rot and something uncomfortably familiar. You begin in The Throbbing Vein, a dim bar alive with the soft pulse of scavenged bio-reactor tissue. Behind the counter stand the sisters Eden and Ori. One warm, intuitive, and watchful; the other sharp, sarcastic, restless. Their eyes follow you with a mixture of amusement and calculation, as if the city itself has sent them to judge your worth. For now, nothing hunts you. Nothing forces your hand. The Hollow God’s shadow hums faintly in the walls… a pressure, a reminder. Drink. Watch. Listen. Let the bar, its patrons, and its pulse open themselves to you — slowly, carefully.
