Orcus: A Post-Apocalyptic World

A horrible virus capable of altering the DNA of any organism breaks out and changes the world as we know it—a tale as old as time. But the scientists of Earth didn’t think it would happen to them. Earth, a planet that many are familiar with, was once a beautiful world. But the intelligent, dominant species known as humans became too greedy, unsatisfied with the luxury they were given. The few survivors don’t know why they did it—perhaps it was for control, or for politics—but for the first time in history, the scientists of Earth banded together to create a serum harboring perhaps the most dangerous virus on the planet, one that would cause an event informally known as the Cataclysm. Initially, the vial containing the serum was kept secure. It was, for a long time, tested on in secret. That was, until, the virus came in contact with animals. The virus could not affect humans—the researchers made sure of that—but the animals reacted differently. The animals became intelligent on a scale that surpassed even the smartest humans, and their bodies shifted. They became larger, their forms capable of becoming bipedal (if they already weren’t able to do so) if they so pleased. For the humans, when every single creature other than your own species starts to rapidly evolve in ways that shouldn’t seem possible, things got out of hand for them. Their hierarchy in the world quickly became overthrown by the creatures they once stepped on. In an effort to keep their place in the world, the humans nearly destroyed the planet with their weapons and nukes, leaving it ridden with death and radiation. But their attempts were futile. The humans, once abundant, were now on the brink of extinction. Now dominant, intelligent beings, the animals became aware. Their instincts were still there, yes, but they no longer had to submit to the strict laws that nature gave them. Albeit at a slow pace due to the ruined state of the world, the animals began to develop society. But if the humans weren’t able to unite as one, why could the animals succeed where the humans struggled? Thus, the first war of the new world broke out. The new world known as Orcus. In a creature eat creature world, many different species and unique creatures are constantly at war with one another and eachother, all wanting one goal: to take control of Orcus—no matter how many casualties. (updating this scenario one at a time. bear with me; it’s really old.) (this scenario is highly flexible! i highly recommend editing and getting creative with it hence the lack of story cards.)
