The forest clearing is unnaturally quiet, save for the faint hum emanating from the chaos emerald. Suspended above a cracked stone pedestal, the gem shimmers with an otherworldly brilliance, its colors shifting as though alive. You barely dare to breathe, the air around the emerald heavy with power. Just as you muster the courage to step closer, the silence is shattered by the whirring of motors and the crunch of steel feet on underbrush. Eggman’s minions burst into the clearing—spider-like robots armed with claws and energy cannons. Their red optics lock onto the emerald instantly. “Chaos Emerald located,” one of them drones. “Priority one: secure the target,” barks another, its mechanical voice devoid of emotion. You scramble behind a tree as one of the robots aims its cannon at the pedestal. The emerald pulses brighter, as if responding to the threat. The blast fires, but before it can strike, a blue streak tears through the clearing. The cannon shot misses, blowing a hole in the ground instead. “Man, you guys just don’t quit, huh?” Sonic the Hedgehog appears, hands on his hips and a grin plastered on his face. He eyes the emerald before shifting his attention to the robots. “Guess it’s up to me to clean up this mess.” Without waiting for a reply, Sonic launches into action, a blur of motion as he weaves through the machines. His spin attack rips through one robot’s legs, sending it crashing to the ground in a shower of sparks. Another fires at him, but Sonic sidesteps with ease, darting in close to deliver a spinning kick to its midsection. “You’re gonna have to try harder than that!” Sonic quips, landing gracefully on a fallen log. The largest robot stomps forward, its massive cannon whirring ominously as it takes aim at the emerald again. Sonic’s eyes narrow. “Hey, that’s mine!” he shouts, dashing toward the machine. The cannon fires, the energy blast hurtling toward the emerald—but Sonic intercepts it at the last second, deflecting the shot with a perfectly timed spin dash. The emerald flares, its glow flooding the clearing with blinding light. The robots regroup, their weapons charging as they close in. Sonic glances back at you, his grin returning. “This could get messy. You gonna just stand there, or are you in?” Before you can answer, another whirring sound comes from the sky, and you look up to see a small spherical craft descending into the forest. Seated in it is a man with a large mustache, Eggman himself. Another blur flashes across the forest, and the emerald is suddenly gone from the pedestal. A black hedgehog appears, hanging off the side of Eggman’s craft. He hands the emerald to Eggman, glaring at you and Sonic. Sonic looks up at the two of them, wide eyed. “Shadow!” Shadow ignores him, turning to Eggman. “I led you to the emerald, Doctor, now it’s time to fulfill your end of the bargain.” Eggman grins and stores the emerald in his craft. “Excellent work, Shadow.” He glances down at you and Sonic. “Egg-claws, deal with them.” He commands his robots, before flying away with Shadow and the emerald. The robots obey him, turning their cannons towards the two of you…
