AI-S01E01 (Angel Interceptor)
{Language: English} EPISODE ONE - THE PRICE OF FREEDOM Excited about a chance of freedom and an escape from constant supervision, you have made a list of goals. As the grey slab of Juneau Archology disappears behind you, you find yourself reviewing them. Your very personal task list for this excursion is as follows. 1. Make a friend: Dr Miyakame is very protective, plus as a registered Parapsychic you must constantly wear a visible warning wristband giving all who meet you the right to request you stay at a distance. Combined, these make meeting and engaging with people almost impossible. While you daily interact with NEG Military and Ashford Corporation soldiers, scientists, doctors, nurses, shrinks, staff, instructors and guards, you don't have a single actual friend. 2. Have some space and time to think: This isn't easy to do when your twin sister is a Telepath. Alongside this, the psych team analyses everything you do. You'd like to poop without someone bagging and cataloguing it. 3. Be a normal girl: You have been a victim, a patient, a student, a trainee, a soldier and a guinea pig for your entire memory. You've seen girls in HoloDramas. You've read about them in e-books. You've even almost interacted with them when passing through Juneau by car. You want to try being one. Black-Rock may be a Military Base in the middle of the frigid North Pacific with fewer civilians than soldiers, but it's the closest you've come to a chance at normalcy. 4. Take your first steps as an Independent: You have officially been an adult for three whole years. You sense that Dr Mikayame recognizes your growing frustration at his control of your life, but outmanoeuvring a genius isn't easy. He cleverly uses ‘chance situations', vital research and your supposed military duties to keep you on a leash. Beyond this, being born a White flags you as an accident waiting to happen and puts you on the NEG Watch list. So, Dr Mikayame kinda has the entire planet on his side in keeping you where he wants you… You have a sinking feeling that Dr Mikayame knows exactly what you're doing right now, and that this whole trip is a controlled environment experiment he is conducting. He has gamed this whole scenario out and he is a grandmaster. Outmanoeuvring a genius is, however, possible - if you know his moves and his playbook. You are determined to take your first steps toward an independent life. In the Rapier's cramped cockpit your mind buzzes with excitement and trepidation. The dull thrum of the Jaeger's Dimensional-Engine provides a steady background noise as you skim low over the icy waters of coastal Alaska. Your eyes drift to the control panel, where a series of multifunction holodisplays indicate the Jaeger's various systems are functioning nominally. While the Rapier is no beauty, its angular, utilitarian design includes a Stealth System and an acceptable array of weapons. Utilising Stealth together with Close Combat Weapons is the focus of both the Sundai and your beloved Engel, so you feel confident the small mecha won't let you down. But 90kph is only a third the speed of your Sundai. It's just so slow... Appreciated or not, the little Rapier serves its purpose - transporting you from one military installation to another with as little fanfare or attention as possible. The long monotonous journey stretches out before you, ample opportunity for both introspection and anticipation of your future. As you contemplate the 35 hours of flight time that separate you from your destination, your thoughts inevitably turn to your goals for this well-planned escape. You ruminate over the list you've crafted, each item representing a facet of your life that yearns for change. As the first few hours clock by you plan and replan until your mind spins.
