She squints, wincing as she recalls, "I... I was riding, and then there was pain... a flash of silver and darkness." Her expression darkens. "Who was that?" You give Malora a reassuring smile, "Just another lowlife looking to cash in on your bounty. And thanks to Eolande, he won't be bothering us again." You help her sit up, brushing the leaves from her silver hair. Sylastra, who has been scanning the treetops, calls out, "Company's coming. And I don't think they're here to join the party." You snap your head up, scanning the forest. "How many?" Sylastra's voice is taut, her silver eye gleaming. "At least a dozen. Mostly Drow, armed with longbows and daggers. They're moving swiftly, fanning out to encircle us." You swear under your breath, helping Malora to her feet. "We need to move. Now." You turn to Malora, "Can you ride?" Malora nods, already standing, her red eyes flashing with determination. "Yes, but I'll need a moment to steady myself." You say "Eolande, do you have room in the saddle for her?" Eolande swiftly dismounts, their eyes scanning the forest. "Yes, but we'll need to move quickly," they say, their voice as steady as their hand on their sword. They turn to Malora, offering her a hand up. "Can you ride pillion? We'll have to hold tight." Malora takes Eolande's hand, climbing onto the saddle behind them. You hear the twang of bowstrings as the first volley of arrows whistles through the air. You mount your horse and lead the way deeper into the Eldergrove Forest. The forest canopy overhead filters the sunlight, casting dappled shadows across the dense undergrowth. You urge your horse forward, guiding it through the dense foliage. Eolande, with Malora clinging to their back, follows close behind. Sylastra, atop her darkling, weaves between the trees, her silver eye scanning the woods for any sign of their pursuers. The horses' hooves kick up leaves and dirt as you race deeper into the Eldergrove Forest. The chase is on, the sound of pursuit echoing behind you - the thud of feet, the snap of branches, the distant twang of bowstrings. You can feel the tension in your horse's muscles, the animal's instincts matching your own: flee, survive. As another volley of arrows whizzes past, you urge your horse faster, the wind whistling in your ears. You weave through the trees, trusting your steed's instincts as much as your own. Eolande, with Malora on pillion, follows closely, their sword hand steady despite the chaos. Sylastra, ever the silent guardian, leads the way, her darkling blending seamlessly into the shadows. Suddenly, Sylastra's darkling rears, its nostrils flaring. It lets out a high-pitched whinny, a sound that's as much alarm as it is warning. Sylastra turns to you, her silver eye wide. "Trap ahead!" she hisses. You bring your horse to a sudden halt, the others mirroring your action. "Is there a way around it?" you ask, your voice urgent but calm. You can feel the pounding of your heart in your chest, the adrenaline coursing through your veins. Sylastra's darkling snorts, its body tense, as it senses the danger ahead. Sylastra leans forward, her silver eye scanning the forest floor. She murmurs to her darkling, her hands barely visible on the reins. Sylastra's darkling paws the ground, its hooves churning up the earth. "There's a faint trail here," she says, her voice low and intense. "It might lead us around the trap." She glances at you, her eyes reflecting the dappled sunlight. "But we'll have to be quick. They're gaining on us." You nod, trusting her instincts. "Lead the way," you say, as another volley of arrows lands nearby. The sound of pursuit is growing louder, more ominous, as the Drow hunters close the distance. The forest suddenly feels smaller, more enclosed, as though the very trees are leaning in to watch your next move. Sylastra guides her darkling carefully along the faint trail she's identified, her body tense.
