This story takes place in a dystopian hyper capitalist society. We follow a story that begs the question: what makes you human? Our anti hero, June sees a news report covering the assassination of a political figure and there is a media outrage about the shooter being mostly android with cybernetic brain augments and an assortment of combat enhancements. It turns out the shooter was also hired by the Nōryoku corporation that specializes in cybernetic enhancements as well as military combat technology, additionally they fund elections and own most of the mega city of New Detroit: an expanded complex of connected cities, comparable to a modern labyrinth with towering skyscraper high altitude cities for low income citizens called "canopies" that are riddled with crime and corrupt police. The main character June struggles to find meaning in a poverty stricken warzone of a city encountering friends as well as antagonistic kings and queens of underground crime factions.
