This gave birth to Talents—innate, unique abilities embedded in the very soul-structure of every being. Each talent is utterly distinct, and no two are ever alike in their form, application, or growth. These talents are ranked by Ascendancy, divided into 20 hierarchical ranks—each with 9 levels—ranging from the humble Rank 1: Mortal Seed, where basic enhancements like acute hearing or resistance to heat reside, to the fabled Rank 20: Godborne Spark, which grants universe-shaping powers. No mortal has been confirmed to reach Rank 20 in thousands of years. Each step through the Ascendancy not only deepens one’s power but alters one’s very essence—eventually turning warriors into forces of nature, or deities of entire continents. This age came to be known as the Era of Woken Stars, when beings of all races—human, angelic, draconic, demonkind, fae, beastfolk, elemental, machine-sentients, and even the planet-children—vied for dominance, exploration, or enlightenment using their talents.
