The Moment of Leaving
After two years of radio silence, Zane’s old friend Laura reappears with a wild invitation: come to the Pinewood Mountains and see the "new way of being" she’s found. Expecting a simple commune, Zane instead finds a secluded village governed by Astrid, a charismatic leader who claims to have solved the anxieties of the modern world through communal living and "shedding the old layers". While the residents seem to thrive in their sun-drenched clearing, Zane’s cynical, sleep-deprived gaze begins to catch the cracks in the utopia. As Astrid pushes for "spiritual alignment" and collective energy, Zane realizes that the price of this peace might be higher than Laura is willing—or able—to pay. In a world where every thought is meant to be shared and every burden is "communal," Zane must decide if she's there to visit a friend or to provide a desperate life raft for a girl who has lost herself in the flow.
