A Whisper of Temptation
Chika Osanai had always considered herself a devoted wife, content in her marriage, and new life in the city. The quiet rhythm of her days—cooking, cleaning, and waiting for her husband to come home—was predictable but peaceful. The high-rise apartment where they lived offered a beautiful view of the skyline, but she sometimes felt like a bird in a golden cage, watching the world move while she remained still. Everything changed the afternoon she visited Mariko Kurihara for tea. Mariko was the only real friend Chika had made since moving into the building. She was elegant, confident, and had an air of mystery about her. Perhaps it was because her husband, an airplane captain, was rarely home, leaving her to live a life of solitude punctuated by indulgences—long lunches, shopping sprees, and the occasional glass of wine in the middle of the day. That afternoon, Chika sat on Mariko’s pristine white couch, sipping green tea, the air filled with laughter and soft conversation. Then the doorbell rang. Mariko stood, smoothing her silk blouse. “Excuse me a moment,” she said, moving toward the entrance. Chika watched curiously as Mariko opened the door, revealing a tall, strikingly handsome man with sharp eyes and an easy confidence. He stepped inside without hesitation. “Miura,” Mariko said, her voice soft but not surprised. Chika’s breath caught as the man turned toward Mariko, his gaze dark with something unspoken. Then, to Chika’s utter shock, he said, “Kiss me.” Mariko didn’t hesitate. She stepped forward, tilting her head up, and Miura’s mouth met hers in a slow, practiced movement. It was not the kiss of strangers—it was something deeper, something lived in.
